1.Review from Customer "Jon M.":
"We are a family of canoe trippers, hikers, backcountry enthusiasts that spend about 30 nights in a tent per season and picked up the Elixir 4p tent about 2 seasons ago to add to our ever growing pile of gear. At first this tent was great, it ticked a lot of the boxes we were looking for. The shape of it allows it to stand up to winds easier, the lRead more about We are a family of canoe trippers,ow ceiling keeps us warm in the cooler shoulder seasons, and the double vestibule is always a great feature. At the beginning, we were very happy with our new 700CAD tent that we picked up from MEC. Towards the end of the first season, we noticed a couple of the taped seams at the corners were in rough shape already allowing water to pool. After a second season of use, nearly all taped seams are now in rough shape and we've noticed that the tent has difficulty even standing up to a light rain indicating that the tent has already lost its waterproofness....after 2 season. We live in the rockies for reference to help give some further context to what I'm calling a 'light rain'. After skimming the reviews below, it seems that we are not the only ones encountering similar issues. We have tents that are a decade old in our garage that are in better shape than our Elixir 4p.
I have done some reading about retapping the seams on this tent and it doesn't look like an easy or quick thing to do. Unfortunately, since MEC was bought up by an American private equity firm in recent years and then promptly changed the terms of their rock-solid-guarantee, we do not have a local option for warranty. As a result, we do not plan to use this tent anymore which is hard to stomach as its a 700CAD tent that has only lasted us 2 seasons. I cannot recommend the MSR Elixir 4p tent to friends or family until something changes with the design or materials."

"Lots of room for two 6 foot plus guys.
easy to set up."
3.Review from Customer "Ken V.":
"Super light, but spacious. Clearly, a well designed tent that has stood up to bad storms with no issues thus far."
4.Review from Customer "Jeff K.":
"Bought it and immediately took it on a backpacking trip. There were some minor leaks in the tent from a mild rain storm, and a whole lot of condensation too. I expected more out of this brand, and frankly, what i paid for it too. I'm hoping that it's better than this cause I've always liked this brand."
5.Review from Customer "Aidan":
"I see alot of bad reviews for this tent, but I've honestly never had any problems with it. First issue I hear alot about is that it leaks. I've never had any leaks with this tent. I remember I ended sleeping in probably an inch of water one night, and not a single drop made it into the tent! Another issue that I heard of was that the poles were atRead more about review stating Solid Tenttached together. I can see why someone would find it annoying l, but I like it like that. I like the way they're attached because I find it easier to set it up by myself. Overall, a pretty solid Tent that I would recommend!"
6.Review from Customer "Jeramie":
"My wife and I have owned this tent for six years now and are completely satisfied! 2 summers ago we had 3 days of heavy constant rain while on a camping trip and did not get wet at all! My family and i are all avid canoe trippers and for the past 6 years this tent has not let me down!"
7.Review from Customer "Ben":
"I am a Guide in Alaska and we use the Elixir 4 on all our mountain trips. It can be a little challenging for inexperienced campers to set up, especially by themselves. Because the poles are attached one pole can make the other pole come apart at the joints, causing the pole to split when bent. We have never broken a pole, but I can see how it coulRead more about review stating A solid tent for hard use and bad weatherd happen if someone is not paying attention to both poles during setup. I have never had a problem with the fly touching the tent body like someone else did. We have also used them in hard, continuous rain without any leaking. Be sure to guy-out the base of the fly for good ventilation and to prevent condensation, especially on the cold wet days. "
8.Review from Customer "Chad":
"Easy to set up... very quick. Great for 2 grown men. Very large vestibules on each side are amazing. Great for car camping, rafting... other places you don't have to carry far. Sturdy lookin design."
9.Review from Customer "Jdk":
"Purchased this tent for myself and 2 kids, 12 and 15, to sleep in. Set up and takedown was easy for the 2 kids, but with the way the poles work I could see how if could be a trickier set up for one person, though certainly doable. Very open and airy if it's not going to rain and you can pull the fly down. Spacious for 3 people, 4 might be a littleRead more about review stating Served us well in the BW.CA tight. 10.Review from Customer "J":
"Spent an evening in the tent during 90min severe thunderstorm with baseball to softball size hail. Four other families' tents were shredded, and ours came away with 2 small holes in the rain fly. The tent was severely deforming when large hail hit but it kept us safe and we didn't have to flee for protection. Our truck (potentially totaled) and wiRead more about review stating Amazing performancendshield (hail penetrated) didn't survive as well as our tent. We have to repair or buy new fly, and will do so happily to spend more nights under the protection of MSR superior design and craftsmanship."
