Locomotive 3 Tunnel Tent with Chimney | POMOLY New Arrival 2024

I am leaving a second review as I now have a handful of trips using my Locomotive 3 tent. I still recommend the tent at 4 out of 5 stars. The tent is good, but there are still a few things that prevent a 5 out of 5 rating.

Initially I had concerns with the diameter of the tent poles - they are a smaller diameter than other 4 season tunnel tents, so I am still hesitant to use the tent in deep winter with lots of snow and wind. It does not feel super sturdy, and would benefit from additional points for guy lines to add structure. I have found that when using the tent in deep cold (-20 degrees celsius), the fabric of the tent shrinks, and it is not possible to get the tent poles into the provided grommets. Instead, I have had to add a knots to the lanyards to hold the pole. It would be a big improvement to add a tensioner to allow for use in colder temperatures (like Hilleberg tents).

After reviewing photos, I have noticed that my tent only includes 1 hook for a lantern, where the images show 2 hooks. Having the additional hook would allow me to hang a drying line, which would be a great addition. I'm disappointed to only have the one.

I still enjoy the tent and find the design and affordability to be great. I wish there were a few small tweaks to make the tent better for deep winter and snow camping in colder temperatures.

I am happy because of the price and design, but I wish the tent were stronger

After initial setup, I am giving this tent 4 out of 5 stars. It appears to be good, but there are a few things that are of concern. The design and affordability of this tent are big speaking points. The tunnel tent with stove jack is a very unique hot tent design - there isnt anything like it available. The price point provides an excellent entry into the world of hot tenting. My tent doesn't appear to have any issues, the seam sealing on fly looks good and the zippers function as intended. It would be nice if there were a few hard points inside the tent to allow for a line to dry clothing items. There is one hook to hang a lantern.

My main issues is that the tent poles are much smaller in diameter than I was expecting for this style of tent, and I was expecting a few more guy out points to the actual fly material to add structure in support in high winds or inclement weather. For this reason, it does not appear to be a true 4-season/backcountry tent, and I worry about the tent's ability to withstand snow loading. To date, there are few reviews show the tent in snowy winter conditions, so I am unsure its ability to withstand these conditions.

I will use the tent this winter in Manitoba, Canada and will provide an extended review after the winter season of backcountry snowshoeing, skiing and camping.

This was our first hot tent purchase and it is absolutely the perfect buy for a couple. The construction is well built and easy enough to setup with even just one person. The stakes especially are surprisingly high quality and super durable. So far we've used the tent in rainy and windy conditions, and the tent has held up amazingly. Our one gripe is that the zippers tend to snag, so if there was an option to upgrade the zippers we would've taken it. Otherwise it's a perfect tent and we won't be looking for a new hot tent anytime soon

Locomotive 3

This tent is pretty impressive for its price point. I don't have much experience in tents but it sure checks quite a few boxes for us.

I have spent 3 night in it at or near 0°C(32°F), no precipitation but some very high winds gusting, often up to 75-80 km/h. The tent held up great. All the seams and guy out point stitching held up to being constantly battered by the wind. When guyed out square and tight there was very little noise or flap unless the wind gusted above approximately 50-60km/h.


The stakes are solid, was contemplating switching them out for something longer before this last trip of high winds. The ground was fairly rocky near the top of a very big hill. They held the tent extremely well and took the abuse of being pounded in with rocks.

Poles are pretty simple, color matched to their respective sleeves on the tent. Seem fairly durable considering the wind storm it went through.

The outter tent is quite light in weight for its size. It stuffs fairly well. The material and stitching seem to be quite strong/durable so far, seems are sealed from factory. It's goes up fairly quick but does take a couple times of setting it up to get it totally square the first time. It feels very solid with very little flex once guyed out tightly. There are straps stitched into the tent to get the area between the inner tent and stove area squared up. These are annoying but necessary to the structure of tunnel tents. If used without the inner tent they can snag on thing.

The inner tent is tubbed, very simple to set up and tear down. We did have one of the straps that attach the inner tent to the outer tent pull out of the stitching, warranty was a breeze. Sent photos to manufacturer, they sent new inner tent. Stitching on new inner tent seems strong, first one may have been a one off, not worried.

We do use it with a titanium wood stove, not advisable in high winds. It will sleep three people with the stove but not much room around the stove area for extra gear when using the stove.

I don't think there are many options for a tunnel tent of this style at this price point, purchased to use as a backcountry hunting tent for three people. It has worked very well so far.

This tent is so roomy. Plenty of room for my wife and I to relax in and enjoy the fire. Would definitely recommend this tent if you’re looking for extra room.

I already own version 1 of this tent and was so happy to see that version 3 came out. I purchased right away because like some of the other customers, we love this style of tent but it was lacking in overall size. Well, this version 3 is huge and I mean huge, yet light enough to still be portable and for some backpackable . Thanks Pomoly, you did it again.
